White Hot Chocolate

There is something so decadent about white chocolate and it is my husband's absolute favourite, so I try to make this lovely homemade white hot chocolate at least once during the cold season. I first made this about 10 years ago and it is always such a treat every time we make it. So velvety and good! And when you add some pink heart-shaped marshmallows, it becomes the perfect Valentine's treat! 

 Although homemade hot chocolate takes some extra time, the results are so worth it! And it is such a delicious change from traditional hot chocolate. Make it for your children, apres skiing, or for guests on a chilly winter evening!

White Hot Chocolate

To Gather:

4 cups milk

1/2 cup good quality white hot chocolate, cut into small pieces

1 teaspoon vanilla

whipped cream

marshmallows

Valentine's Day pareils

To Make:

1. To a medium sauce pan, add milk, white chocolate and vanilla.

2. Melt slowly and gently on medium low heat, whisking often, until hot chocolate mix is completely smooth. {Do not let boil}

3. Divide evenly between 4 mugs and garnish with whipped cream, pareils and marshmallows

I also think that this would be so cute to serve during a winter birthday party too.

Or to make for any little girls who love pink or Fancy Nancy!

Sweetheart Munchie Mix +Free Printable Tag

If you are looking for a quick and easy somethin' somethin' to make for a gift for Valentine's Day....I have just the thing for you...Sweetheart Munchie Mix.This mix is a delicious blend of sweet, salty, crunchy and chocolatey. It's heaven I tell ya! The best part...no baking skills required!

And I even created a cute little tag to go with it so that it's perfect for gift-giving!

This mix is so easy...it can be whipped together in under 10 minutes. You can also pop the popcorn or buy the popcorn...whatever you prefer.

Sweetheart Munchie Mix 

To Gather:

2-3 cups popcorn

2-3 cups Chex cereal

1 1/2 cup Smarties Valentine's Mix or other chocolate coated candy

1 1/2 cups melted milk chocolate {I use melting wafers from Bulk Barn because they are so easy to melt in the microwave and the chocolate tastes good.}

To Make:

1. Spread out popcorn and Chex cereal on a large cookie sheet.

2. Drizzle with melted chocolate. And go crazy if you like...the more the better in my book!

3. Sprinkle Smarties Valentine Mix all over the mixture. Let melted chocolate dry. Then break up mix, leaving chunks cause they are the yummiest to eat! 

And if you would love to bag this up for some sweethearts in your life, I have made a tag that can be printed off and attached to the Munchie Mix with a little ribbon.

Easy Red Velvet Cookies For Valentine's Day

We loves cookies at our house and they disappear so fast! While browsing at the grocery store recently, I spied this brand new cookie dough.... Pillsbury Red Velvet Cookies. Sit down and shut the front door! I just had to take them home and try them out. They looked so pretty with white chocolate chips...with the taste of rich red velvet in a cookie form.

 The dough comes in a roll and just needs to be scooped out with a teaspoon and placed on a cookie sheet for easy baking. The package makes approximately 18 cookies.

And I couldn't help myself by making these red velvet cookies pretty by adding a few little things on top.

Easy Red Velvet Cookies For Valentine's Day

1 package Pillsbury Red Velvet Cookie Dough

3/4 cup pink melting wafers

1/4 cup Valentine's pareils 

To Make:

1. Bake cookies according to package directions. Let cool.

2. Melt pink wafers for 30-40 seconds, or until melted smooth.

3. Drizzle melted pink wafers over cookies. Sprinkle with pareils. Let dry.

Now hide some away before they all disappear! Or package them up to give to someone special.

These Red Velvet cookies are so pretty, and as a busy mom, I always like to have some ready-made cookie dough on hand. So the next time you are at the grocery store, don't forget to pick up a roll of these Red Velvet Cookies because they are only available for a limited time!

Valentine's Treat Tubes

We love the holiday of love at our house! So far, I have had fun making Valentine Petit Fours, Marshmallow Pops and  Mug Cake Gifts. When my now 17 year old daughter was little, she loved crafting ALL THE TIME. She was always cutting, gluing, colouring and finding something to make pretty. One year for Valentine's Day, we made some treat tubes just like these for her to hand out to a few friends. She spent hours on this project and it provided so much fun for her that I wanted to share it again if you have kiddos at home who love to craft...as she once did.

The best part of this project is that many of these materials might be on hand already, or can be easily made.

And each little treat tube can be made with it's own unique design too!

You can also fill this tube with candy or non-candy treats....whichever you like!

For this project, you will need:

Supplies:

A small hole punch

Twine {Dollarama}

Foam Hearts {Dollarama}

Scrapbook Paper {scraps will work}

Valentine's Day Stamp {Michaels $1.50}

Black cardstock

White stamp pad

Scotch tape 

Paper trimmer

Stapler

Treats for filling the tubes

Step 1. Make the tags. Use a stamp and  bright white ink pad to stamp a message on blackcard. {Cut the tags to fit your stamp size.}Or just use black ink or white cardstock if that works!

Punch a hole in the corner of each tag.

Step 2. Cut scrapbook paper into 3" by 6" rectangles. This size will wrap around the tubes perfectly.

Step 3. Fill tubes with treats and staple each end. of the tube.

Here are some ideas for treats:

Smarties, Hersheys Kisses, cinnamon hearts, stickers, small erasers, etc.

Step 4. Wrap each tube with scrapbook paper and use scotch tape to hold it in the back.

Step 5.  Add a foam heart to the front and affix with tape on the back. Wrap with twine and add tags!

And now the treat tubes are ready for giving!

I would like mine filled with chocolate please! I have a weakness for chocolate!

 So adorably cute! I remember when my daughter made these and she also made little strips of jokes to put inside too! I really wish that I had saved some!

Valentine's Favor Craft Project

Crafting for Valentine`s Day is so fun! There are so many pretty things to make with an array of beautiful supplies! These Valentine`s Favors are easy to make with re-cycled toilet paper or paper towel tubes decorated with paper doilies, hearts, ribbons and twine. They are a wonderful  project if you have a gaggle of little girls who need something to do!

Here are some of the supplies I used to decorate the tubes.

Supplies:

Tissue paper to wrap the tubes 

Scotch tape to fasten the tissue paper to the tubes

Paper doilies 

Ribbon or yarn

Paper hearts

Bakers twine

Step 1. Place inside the tube any treat you like such as candies, gum, jokes, pictures, movie tickets, etc. Wrap the tubes in tissue paper squares that are cut to approx. 8`` by 8`` and tape at the back. I used 3 layers of tissue paper.

Step 2. Use ribbon or yarn to tie the ends of the tissue paper on the tube.

Step 3. Decorate the tubes as desired. I layered a white paper doily, a red paper heart and tied it with twine, but have fun and decorate how ever you like! 

Using a white ink pad and black cardstock, some `chaulkboard`  looking tags can be made too!

 And tags can  be added to the favors too!

 They look so pretty with tags...

Or without. They would be perfect for a Valentine`s breakfast, luncheon or dinner. 

Or just to give!

Valentine's Treat Bags

Hi everyone! I am so happy to be here to share this cute little treat bag project with you! I had so much fun making these this weekend with one of my favourite things ever....felt hearts. They can turn any plain project into something beautiful. These darling bags would make a great gift for any special sweetie for Valentine's day. And whatever goes inside can be limitless... small cookies, kisses, a gift card, gum...whatever your heart desires.

To make these cute treat bags, only a few supplies are needed that can be picked up at most local stores.

And any colour combination of red and pink will look wonderful.

Here is what I used:

Red heart ribbon {Dollarama $1.00}

Kisses stamp {Micheals $1.50}

Burlap bags {Michaels, 2 for $1.50}

Felt hearts {Target, $1.00 for a bag}

Black ink pad {a few years old, forget where I purchased it}

Pink & red  cardstock 

The first thing I always make before starting any project are the tags. I simply cut strips of cardstock and then stamped them with the 'Kisses' stamp in black ink.

The $1.50 baskets at Michaels are a great place to pick up rubbers stamps. I always pick up a few whenever I see things that I like.

 And then I attach the felt hearts to the burlap bags.

  They are stick-on, and once the paper is peeled off, they stick really well to the burlap bags.

And then some treats are placed inside.

The last step is to tie up the bags with ribbon and tags.

You could use the same tags for all of the bags, as I have done, or you could switch it up with different tags too!

And there you have....adorable treat bags which are simple & sweet assemble and wonderful to give!

Valentine's Mug Cake Gift Idea

 It's no secret how I love pretty things! Especially pretty packaging for gifts! With Valentine's Day not far away, I was looking to create a small gift that would be great to give to friends, teachers or neighbours, while also being easy to put-together and budget-friendly. When I saw these sweater-wrapped mugs at the dollar store, I knew that they would work for cute mug cake gifts!

Whenever I see pretty felt embellishments in a package for a dollar or two, I always pick them up because with a little imagination, they can always be used to pretty something up!

I am crazy over felt embellishments and I love these colours together.

Here are all the supplies that I used to create this gift. The Dr. Oetker Mug Cake mixes were a ridiculous 99 cents each with 2 packages inside! {And we have made the mug cakes a few times and they are really good!} Lots of felt hearts work for so many things!

Then I just layered a white heart paper doily and some felt hearts and tied it all up with baker's twine.

Inside is a mug cake along with a handful of Hersheys kisses.

Such a sweet and simple gift, don't you  think?

Perfect for a teacher or even your own kids...big or small.

Now I am super hungry for a little mug cake...all of this talk about sweets and chocolate will do that to a girl!
