An Easter Party For Kids

I  love parties for kids, and I couldn't help but be inspired to create an Easter party for little peeps.
I love bright colours & patterns, along with fun details like bunnies and candy displays.
So I incorporated those things into this Easter party tablescape.
Planning a party for kids never needs to be as elaborate as we think it should be because kids' are usually happy with even the smallest of details.

For this party, I created an adorable centerpiece with mason jars full of different kinds of Easter candy.
{However, I would suggest putting a lid on the candy jars until after dinner is over. (wink)}
Some of the other party favours include pinwheels in a jar for pre-dinner play, a pretty daisy lid and striped straw for drinking, and the little chickadee pencils I shared 2 weeks ago.
A handful of crayons in a little mason jar stacked on a pile of cardstock makes for a wonderful art activity while waiting for dinner to be served.
And the playdough bunny favors from yesterday's post provide a cute take home treat...with playdough inside for after-dinner playtime.
Or you could even decorate cookies with the kids with this cute Easter Cookie Decorating Kit.
Maybe forget this being a kids' table competely and let it be the big people's table.
I would be happy to sit and draw some pictures!
Thank you so much for visiting my little Easter party.
I loved having you here!

Playdough Bunny Favors

One of the things I love about Easter has to be the cute bunnies everywhere.
I love seeing sweet ears and noses and whiskers.
So today I am sharing with you this adorable little bunny craft.
It's an easy project  to make with kids, and would look so completely and gi-normously cute on any Easter table, or be a great non-candy treat to take to school.

And you know me...I like my crafting wares to come from the Dollar Store...'cause not only must it be cute, but also cheap.
It all began when I found the mini-jars of playdough. I thought the jars would look so fun dressed as bunnies. Then I spotted the eggs with the bunny face & ears and an idea was born.
Here are the supplies I used:

 Supplies:
  • mini playdough jar
  • plastic eggs with bunny faces
  • scrapbook paper
  • cupcake liners
  • white pom poms
  • glue gun or white school glue
Step 1~Cover the jars with scrapbook paper.
Step 2~Cover the tops of the jars with a cupcake liner as shown. Glue.
Step 3~Glue on a white bunny tail.
Step 5~Glue the Easter bunny eggs to the top of the jars.
And now we have a bevy of bunnies in a rainbow of colours pretty enough to grace any Easter table.
Love them? I hope so!

Easter Petit Fours

Hello sweet people!
I have just returned from a MOST amazing weekend at the BlogWest blogging conference.
I will share more later in the week, but in the meantime I will get back to the business of creating.
Since the Valentine's Petit Fours were so popular, I was inspired to create an Easter version of these little cakes.

This time, however, instead of using sprinkles for decoration...I found the most ADORABLE little icing flowers in the aisles at Michaels.
They just look so SPRING-Y and HAPPY.
And in case you missed the goods on how to make these little pretties at Valentine's, I will share how simple these REALLY are.
Easter Petit Fours
Ingredients:
Pound cake, cut into 1 by 1 inch squares.
Frosting, made with icing sugar and water and thin enough for drizzling
Icing Flowers {The ones I used were made by Wilton}
Directions:
1. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Place cooling rack over cookie sheet.
2. Dip pound cake cubes into icing until completely coated. Place on cooling rack over cookie sheet.
3. Add icing flowers to cakes.
4. Place on cooling rack until icing is set.
5. That's it.
I will be sharing some more Easter projects this week, and then I will be getting back to some ORGANIZING projects....cause boy....does my house need a good SPRING cleaning!

20 FUN Activities For March Break

March Spring Break is just around the corner for many school children.
Our family is enjoying a stay-cation for Spring Break, as we are hoping to take a bigger trip later in the year, so we need to save our pennies.
Although my kids are older now and don't need me to plan activities and crafts for them,
I can't help but love ALL the amazing ideas I see for kids so I thought I would make a collection of easy, budget-friendly activities for families who do have younger children and are looking for ideas for things to do at home.
First, I have a few SPRING and EASTER IDEAS to share.

You can find small birdhouses for painting. along with paints and brushes,  at almost any dollar store and this would provide an afternoon of fun for kids. I found this inspiration picture for you at Plaid.
These little Chickadee Pencils are easy to make and would make an awesome gift to give to classmates for Easter.

Flower Pots are always fun to paint & dress-up. I love these Easter pot ideas from Plaid. A  quick
trip to the dollar store would take care of gathering the flower pots, google eyes, paint and foam sheets.
Bounty Towels also shared this creative idea for Egg Shell Mosaics made with crushed eggshells. Cool!
I adore this Easter Egg lunch from the Kailo Chic Blog. How fun would this be for little kids?
Now with a few Easter/Spring ideas under out belt, let's look at some other
 CUTE CRAFT IDEAS.
I love this paper doll making kit from The Mama Makes Stuff. Please visit her blog to find out more, but she has photocopied several copies of a paper doll and filled a bag of scraps, scissors and glue, so everything needed for designing 'outfits' is at hand. This idea would also be fabulous for long road trips!
Painting and gluing activities are always fun for kids and collages perfect for keeping small hands busy!
This Sea Creature Collage would work for both boys or girls.
And how about Painting Sneakers?
And now let's tackle the TOUGHEST CATEGORY EVER...
Crafts & Activities FOR BOYS!
{I have a boy and he is the toughest critic EVER when it comes to craft activities!}
What boy wouldn't  love this easy Marshmallow Shooter from the blog Come Together?
And since boys love anything with motion, these Box Mazes from Scribbit would be an awesome project to make with a box and some Popsicle sticks or straws.
And how about Pizza Box Tabletop Soccer? Simply reuse a pizza box with some straws and cotton balls. How very easy is that? This great idea comes from the Spooful blog.
And if you have a large empty basement or garage space...a bunch of boxes and duct tape could turn into hours and hours of fun with a maze, which older kids could probably manage to build by themselves.
Boxes, duct tape, and flashlights could make for the cheapest fun ever!
Some kids might enjoy some activities/projects that involve GROWING THINGS.
How cool would it be to grow beans during March Break like The Imagination Tree? You could start the seeds on Monday and have plants within 2-3 days!
And if  kids want to start some seedlings for the garden, I shared several ideas HERE for just that.
And you looking to make some new Bird Feeders for Spring? Inner Child Fun shares some super ideas for making shaped bird feeders.
And after the craft and activity time is over, it would be so fun to have a Little Ducky Picnic. You could spread a blanket on the floor and have a summer-esque picnic.
Another fun theme for lunch is a Sea Creature meal....made with some hot dogs and served with veggies & dip.
I just love this fun looking Spring Pizza. For this, cookie dough could be made or bought and the kids could flatten it into a pizza pan and decorate it...perfect for hands-on fun.
Older kids could easily make these sweet & silly Marshmallow Easter Kabobs on their own.
So there you have 20 FUN IDEAS for both BOYS & GIRLS of all ages!
Which idea was YOUR favourite?

11 Seedling Ideas for Spring

I am so excited for Spring.
For the first time in more than a few years, we are going to start a fun project...a vegetable garden.
We haven't had one since we moved to this province over 8 years ago....mostly because our Spring has been filled with hockey, but this year our son has decided not to play Spring hockey, which means free weekends for our chief gardener...my husband.
{As you might remember, I am not much of a gardener, as I wrote about in How I Stopped Killing Plants and Learned to Grow Something.}
In anticipation of our garden project, I'm getting ready to start seedlings, so I've been having fun looking around at all kinds of seedling ideas on the interwars.
I get so inspired seeing lots of different ideas....there are so many cool ways to start seedlings no matter what your budget.
Let's take a look, shall we?

Of course, as I was browsing around the Stokes website, I saw the traditional pellets for starting seedlings. This is an easy, foolproof method, but it does take some money to go this route.
There are also the popular trays that  are found everywhere this time of year.  Trays and popsicle sticks make excellent starting gardens for tiny seeds. I love this picture from Chiot's Run showing this method.
If you are looking for more environmentally friendly seedling trays, using egg shells and egg cartons is a popular method that has been used for years...as shown in this photo from Soda Pop.
The shells can be crushed gently when planting the seedlings in the garden later in the spring. Egg shells make the perfect small nest for a tiny seedling like we see in this lovely pic from Indiana Public Media. You can even write on the shells with a sharpie if you like.
I love this tutorial from Learning & Yearning for making seedling cups from newspapers. Brilliant use of a material that everyone has access to, and if you already have a subscription to a newspaper...this costs nothing.
Here is another creative idea from Food For My Family for using paper towel or toilet paper tubes cut and lined with newspaper. Again, another no cost way of using materials already found around the house.
And if you are super ambitious and have the time, you can make these neato cups just using a paper towel or toilet paper tube on it's own. I found this unique idea at The Tree Hugger.
And most of us have food containers that can be recylced into studier cups for starting seedlings like Powdered Green has done.
You can also use empty pudding cups and yogurt cups like Gardening in the Burroughs of NYC used for her seedlings.
And a super cute project idea can be found at The Frugal Girls for starting seedlings along in a mini-terrarium created from a soda bottle.
And when it comes to hardening those plants off, I like this idea of using rubber maid totes to carry the cups outside, like in these pictures from the Garden Web Forums site.
Dollar store baskets will also work, as well as cookie sheets or left over scraps of plywood.
I will be using a combination of trays purchased years ago, as well as recycled containers for starting our seedlings.
How about you?
Are you starting some seedlings?
What do you usually use to start your seedlings in?
