Halloween Pencils

 I can't help it...I have a weekness for Pom-pom crafts. I am a child of the 1970's  and I clearly remember making pom-poms crafts at school and an Owl pom-pom pencil Brownies. So soft and cute! I couldn't help but to create this fun pom-pom look for Halloween. And do these not remind you just a teeny-tiny bit of the muppets? Loved that show!

 The beauty of this craft is that it can be made across a range of different ages and they can be as elaborate or as simple as you like!

Supplies:

Halloween theme pencils
Assorted pom-poms in different colours and sizes
Googly eyes in different colours and sizes
Small candy bones (I found mine at the dollar store)
White school glue or glue gun

Directions:
Let your imagination run wild! Make as many funny-looking pencils as you dare! I used pom-poms for hair and tiny bone candies for a bow tie on mine. Have fun!

I loved that when my 12 year old son saw these, he laughed! 

So this craft is little kid AND big kid approved!

Halloween Cookie Decorating Kit

Have I told you recently how much I love my readers? I really, really do and I so appreciate your visits here and your sweet comments mean so much to me! Thank you!

It's no secret that I love giving. 

And nothing makes me happier to give a gift from my kitchen to someone who either doesn't bake, doesn't have time to bake or just because. I put together this Halloween Cookie Decorating Kit for a friend with a few small children as a gift for something for them to make together that mom could just sit back and enjoy without having to do anything!

For this little ensemble, I covered a can of store bought frosting with some cute Halloween scrapbook paper, along with two dozen homemade of our favourite sugar cookies.

 And I filled small spice containers with different types of sprinkles or nonpareils to decorate the cookies.

And I included one of these adorable little seasonal spatulas to use for frosting the cookies.

And now we have a wonderful cookie decorating kit to give!

Cute Halloween Candy House

Thank you so much for visiting me! I am always so grateful you are here!

I know when my kids were younger that I loved making seasonal crafts with them! I created this Halloween Candy House with candy we had on hand, glue and a few other bits and bobble and I love how it turned out!

This would also be such a fabulous classroom/Brownie/Girl Scout craft to make with kids...so colourful and cheerful!

And if you have candy that is stale, hard or dried out...even better for this project!

And guess what else? For this project, I started off with an inexpensive wood bird house, but a small milk carton would work just as well.

Supplies:

Wood bird house or small milk carton

Assorted Halloween candies

Craft paint

White school glue or glue gun

Other small trims and embellisments like ribbon or buttons

Small plastic character

Pssss! I found this cute little pencil topper at the Dollar store to use as small character for the Candy House.

And here are some directions to help guide you, but really you could take creative license and make whatever type of 'art' you like!

Step 1. Paint Birdhouse. I used orange for the house and black for the platform. Let dry.

Step 2. Glue candies on the roof.

Step 3. Glue candies on the walls of the house.

Step 4. Glue trim and button on rooflines, and then add little plastic character to perch.

I think making these houses with a group of kids would be SO FUN because every house would be different and unique.

Halloween Treat Bucket {Tutorial}

I am having so much fun creating some Halloween projects for around our house!  I was so excited to try out some Martha Stewart Decoupage products to create this crazy cute & easy Halloween Treat Bucket. This would be such a great project to make with  kids as a family activity before the trick-or-treating fun begins. Each child could have their own custom, personalized bucket for collecting treats on the big night of costumes and howling, good fun! Or you could simply use it as a 'candy bowl' for guests to help themselves!

For this project, I used these supplies. Empty paint cans can usually be purchased at the local paint store, while all of the Martha Stewart Decoupage products can be found at Michaels.

The first step for creating the Halloween Treat Bucket is to measure and cut the decoupage paper to fit the bucket.

I cut two large pieces to go around the paint can.
{We will deal with the sides in just a minute.}

Next, using the paint, stencil letters and pouncers, I stencilled "Treats" on one sheet of the decoupage paper. It is so much easier to stencil on a flat paper than paper that is already on a can!

Let the stencil dry completely.

Then I covered the can completely in Martha Stewart Decoupage in Matte Finish.

The great thing about all the decoupage formulas is that they are: dishwasher safe, machine washable, non-yellowing, dry hard with no tack and can be used indoors or out.

And all of the Martha Stewart Craft Decoupage Formulas and Finishes can be used on any surface including: glass, fabric, paper, metal and wood to create any project your heart desires!

Then I applied the 2 sheets of decoupage paper around the can. But I was left with some seams that needed to be covered, so I cut thin strips of decoupage paper and covered  the seams.

It worked perfectly!

Next, using more decoupage formula and a brush, I added this fun trim around the top and bottom of the can.

And I gave everything a final coat of decoupage formula to protect everything.

I followed the directions to let everything dry properly.

When the can was completely dry, I added some colorful ribbon to the handles.

And then I added some tissue paper and filled the can with lots of yummy Halloween goodies!

And that is how I created a wonderful Halloween Treat Bucket for guests to help themselves to sweet treats while visiting our humble abode!

Easy Halloween School Lunch

Sometimes it can be a thrill for kids to jazz up ordinary things in interesting ways....like a school lunch to celebrate Halloween as a fun little surprise. This lunch is very simple to create as you don't have to bake anything special and only takes a little extra time. However, I am sure that it would make any child smile!

This cute Halloween lunch consists of:

- a clementine with a funny face drawn with a Sharpie.

-an 'eyeball' sandwiches made with olive slices for eyes.

- a wormy apple made with a real apple and a gummy worm (cut the apple in half and then make a small hole to put the worm through.)

-Halloween pretzel hugs, or any little treat will also work.

-A Franken-juice box

And then our pretty little Halloween lunch is packed in the Mackenzie Lunch Bag by Pottery Barn Kids. We have had a chance to use this bag for over a month now and it is an awesome bag! Not only is it made of a rugged, water-resistant polyester, but the sturdy stitching for the handle makes it great for the rough and tumble it takes from a tween boy.

As a mom, I also love the molded interior because it is so easy to wipe clean when needed so those messy pudding cups or sticky fruit juice stains take mere seconds to clean with a wet cloth.

And trust me, at the end of the day, I don't want to spend a lot of time wiping out lunch boxes.

And this lunch bag can also fit the Hot/Cold Food Storage Container, or the Spencer Food Storage container, as well as being personalized with a name.

And, of course, it holds everything for this special lunch perfectly!

The Franken-berry juice box is easy to make with some googly eyes, black and green construction paper, a sharpie and some scissors.

Just cover the juice box in green construction paper.

Use some zig-zag scissors to cut some hair.

Glue the hair on the green box, add some googly eyes, draw a smile with a black sharpie and that's it!

And after the fun of creating is done, everything packs nicely into the Pottery Barn Kids Mackenzie Lunch Bag, and I know that the lunch will arrive safely at school  with the molded interior protecting it from accidental squishing!

Painted Mason Jar Lanterns-Craft Project

I love crafting with things that are just hanging around the house....like these old mason jars. And painting them is such a fun way to create some decor for Halloween. It would be a great kids' craft project too!

Let me show you how I created these fun painted mason jar lanterns!

Here are the supplies needed for this project:

Supplies:

Mason jars or any other similar size jars

Martha Stewart Stencils

Martha Stewart Foam Pouncers

Martha Stewart Craft Paint in Beetle Black & Carrot

Craft Tape

Step 1. Wrap craft tape around clean jar in a spiral pattern as shown.

 Step 2. Using foam pouncer, paint the jar in black beetle paint. Let dry until tacky. 

 Step 3. Remove crafting tape to reveal a fun black striped jar.

Step 4.Tape pumpkin part of Martha Stewart stencil to a  clean jar.

 Step 5. Using foam pouncer, paint  over stencil pattern with carrot paint.

 Step 6. When paint is still slightly tacky, carefully remove stencil to see the jack o'lantern lantern.

Once completely dry, fill mason jars with a filler like candy corn or any other non-flammable filler. 

 Insert a tea light into each jar and light. {Using a set of tongs is a great way to set the tea light into the jar more easily!}

 This is such a fun project and almost any design can be painted on the jars...you could even free hand a design for to make each jar unique!
