Sugar Cookies with Maple Butter & Fresh Nutmeg {Christmas Cookie Week #ChristmasCookies}

Let me just say that this is the world's BEST sugar cookie. Why? Because it uses very simple, basic ingredients, tastes wonderfully tender and buttery, AND it is a drop cookie! That means no time-consuming rolling and cutting....just easy drops off the end of the spoon. And this cookie is absolutely melt-in-your mouth good!
With the addition of maple butter and fresh nutmeg, you will positively swoon!

Here is the recipe and it comes from my Grandmother's kitchen.
We have used this recipe for years!

*SUGAR COOKIES*
{makes 3 1/2 dozen}
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
4 tbsp milk
2 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In mixing bowl, combine butter and sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Then add milk and vanilla.
2. In another bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and salt.
3.Add flour mixture to butter mixture gradually. Beat until mixed to form soft dough.
4. Roll dough into 1.5 inch balls.
5. Flatten with a fork and bake  in 325 oven for 8-10 minutes.Let cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes. Then transfer to cooling rack.
Now to make the maple butter.

Maple Butter

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1.5-2 cups icing sugar
2-3 tbsp. maple syrup

Directions:
1. Mix together butter and icing sugar and maple syrup until smooth and fluffy.
2. Spread on cooled cookies as desired.
 And this my friends is fresh nutmeg. You can find it usually in a bulk food section with baking spices. It is fragrant and lovely and nothing beats fresh nutmeg. It is so good on cookies and on top of whipped cream for any dessert or hot drink. On eggnog...totally dreamy!
Using a tiny grater like this one, grate fresh nutmeg over the maple-butter frosted cookies.
The cookies will smell and taste delicious!
And then you will need to hide them if you want them to last until Christmas because they are VERY hard to resist!
And in case you missed Day 1, I shared these Peppermint Bark Cookies.
And Day 2 featured these cute Christmas Chip Cookies.

Don't forget to hop on over to see what the rest of the Christmas Cookies Week Gang is making today too!

Thank you so much for visiting!
See you with another cookie treat tomorrow!
